Ingredients

  • Millet Flakes (any): 1 cup (100 g approx)
  • Oil: 2 tsp
  • Whole Spices: Bay leaf, cinnamon, clove, cardamom (1 each)
  • Onion: 1 (sliced)
  • Green Chilli: 4
  • Ginger Garlic Paste: ½ tsp
  • Tomato: 1
  • Mixed Vegetables: Carrot, potato, peas, beans, capsicum
  • Turmeric Powder: 1 tsp
  • Coriander & Mint Leaves: For garnish
  • Salt: As required

Water Ratio for Flakes

  • Thinai, Samai, Varagu, Kuthiraivalli (Small flakes) → 1 cup flakes : ¾ cup water
  • Kambu, Red Cholam & Traditional Rice (Large flakes) → 1 cup flakes : 1¼ cup water

Preparation Method

  1. Add hot water to 1 cup of flakes and soak for 5 minutes (small flakes) or 10 minutes (large flakes).
  2. Heat oil in a pan and sauté bay leaf, cinnamon, clove, and cardamom.
  3. Add sliced onions, green chilli, and ginger garlic paste. Sauté until golden brown.
  4. Add tomato and cook until soft. Then add mixed vegetables and salt. Cook until half done.
  5. Add soaked flakes and turmeric powder. Mix gently and sauté for 1 minute.
  6. Garnish with coriander and mint leaves. Serve hot.
